Threatened existence of Tadvis bheels, Muslims
ThreatThreatened existence of Tadvis (Bheels, Muslims, etc)
The death of Dr Payal Tadvi a second year post graduate at the Nair Hospital in Mumbai is regrettable and unfortunate. She was doing her post graduation and that in itself is enviable because of difficulty in getting admission. But for her nomadic tribe reservation such coveted opportunity of post graduation education in medical course is a matter of envy for others. It was easy to climb the ladder of progress and advancement. Even so that proved a bane for her. Those of the upper castes sometimes grudged it and tried to take it out (exhaust) by insulting and humiliating. But it is certain that the three doctors committed gross violation of her human rights of dignity and work. These rights are also enshrined in the Constitution of India. If she committed suicide then it was terror of being tortured in such a demeaning manner that drove her to end her life.
There are examples in galore. But coming to the particulars of her own life; on the fateful day of May 22 she had called up her husband Dr Salman and told him that she would be meeting him soon. So there was no fear of anything. It was quite casual. The three accused doctors Aniketa Khandelwal, Hema Ahuja and Bhakti Mehare lived in different wings of the hostel. And yet they were at Payal’s room. By design or accidentally? They took Payal’s body to the casualty ward. Why did not they call for help, sound alarm or call the police? Why did they then go absconding instead of mourning and showing solidarity with the dead? The absence of these manifests the sucourless threatened existence of Payal.
The accused three show signs of shunning police and media. They give excuse of needing a fair trial. This idiotype made the people in Mumbai turn against the three. The sophistication of language and argument smacks lack of sincerity on their part.
Members of the Tadvi community have faced threat to their existence in group as well. The authentic account of the bomb blasts in Malegaon begins in Gujarat nomadic region of Dangs. Swami Aseemanand organized the Shabri Kumbh Mela near Pumpa pond of Shabri Dham on February 11, 12, and 13, 2006. A much publicized part of the mammoth gathering was to welcome Tadvi Bhil Muslims back to the Hindu fold. The Muslims in the Dangs Districts of Gujarat, the negihbouring districts of Nandurbar, Dhule and Malegaon town saw red in this. On February 5, they organized a move to make their fellow religionists desist from attending the ceremonies at the Shabri Kumbh Mela. Ahmad Burhan Khan Tadwi of Haripura, Yawal Gujarat, Masoom Rahim Tadwi of Maharad, Chopra and Ramzan Sardar Tadwi of Palan Taluka, Rawer, all from Gujarat issued a pamphlet calling for abstaining Muslims from joining Aseemanand. This angered Aseemanand who visited the rural areas of Dhulia in the vicinity of Malegaon. Within eight days of the attack on the Sankat Mochan Temple of Allahabad he called a meeting and asked the Hindutva groups primarily Abhinav Bharat, Jai Vande Matrum, etc to explode bombs in Malegaon in retaliation. Malegaon was the first target as it had a huge population of Muslims. It is worth noting that Akkalkjuwan and Navapur areas are in Maharashtra where Tadvis are in large numbers living as primitive life as their fellow tribal natives there. But Akkalkuwan also has the best education campus of Islamic seminary and educational hub, an eye sore of Hindutiva groups.
Aseemanand’s move against the Tadvis posed an existential threat to the community. The case of Dr Payal also is of the same nature. She was the first of her community to have become a doctor. She was humiliated in the operation theatre with her file thrown at her in anger. She had performed operation well.
Payal had natural talents and so she was not idiotype. The set of genetic determiners could not obstruct her in divining the cause and diagnosing the disease. As a gynaecologist she was a non-judgmental gynaecologist. She was not opinionated. She saw the case as it is and what best should be done for the remedy. The name in the case paper would not sway her from the principles of medical science.
She was quite professional in her work and had done two caesarian operations successfully.

Doomsday Democracy
Modi is engineering Muslim Exodus! Mustafa Khan k and patch up work. People not only killed and burnt houses but left not a single brick of home and hope of returning and rebuilding. 2. Call it by any name or no name India was India and lived in harmony for thousands of years neighbor by neighbor in rich diversity. 3. Assam developed because of the need of work done by migrants from parts of India. 4. Gujarat saw rioting on account of quota reservation and cow slaughter and the riots were turned against the minority Muslim at the receiving end. What happened in 2002 was planned genocide. 5. Temples and mosques have been destroyed and no one can be immaculate in record nor can anyone community held responsible. 6. Opening of the temple door or raising of the mosque to the ground is the result of selfish calculation of parties. This is not India. 7. The exodus of Kashmiri pandit was made possible by governor Jagmohan by luring most of them with money and housing. 8. The shooting at Ayodhya was in reaction to marauding crowd of kar sevaks. Muslims were not in sight anywhere. Not even the whole of Ayodhya. 9. The victims were overwhelmingly Muslim minority who suffered hugely and the blasts in 1993 was revenge of some gangsters because of their family members being raped and killed in tit for tat where police were on the wrong side. 10. Godhra was truly a tragedy but two commissions of the governments have very widely different conclusions. 11. The Mopla rebellion of 1921 transpired due to the British troops of native origin who entered the famous mosque at Tirurangdi and killed large number of Kerala Muslims. There is no communalism. But it became a part of khilafat. 12. The train blast of 2006 has been solved and only people of Indian origin were sentenced to imprisonment and no foreigner was involved. 13. Temple desecration not solved. 14. Muslim/Hindu migration to Assam and other regions is a matter of people of Indian origin seeking work. 15. What foreign agencies record doesn’t tally the right figures. 16. Border regions are tightly controlled being so porous. 17. Muslims in India formally and informally have been using sharia courts existing at different levels and places. 18. Safety is a matter of disciplined patrolling and registering cross border crimes and population shift. Though the petition was rejected with a frown it has come at a time when there is growing intolerance in the country and simultaneous weltanschauung of exodus through creation of low key communal tension with frequent, small, low-intensity incidents out of petty everyday issues that institutionalise communalism at the grass roots. [2] . A part of the need to respond is that there are leaders who have had the misfortune to fall a prey to the theory of Samuel Huntington that there is a clash. This: on the account that the Muslims don’t live with their neghbours in peace. In fact the opposite is the case now. Former PM AB Vajpayee travelled to Goa in 2002 where he wanted to change the leadership in Gujarat because of the pogroms of Muslims. But the restive audience was adamant and forced him not to change the leadership of Modi. The petition of Sangat Singh Chauhan brings back what the Hindutva right wing groups still cherish. Hence it is imperative to oppose it by all means in all fields. There is commensalism in the working of different schemes and programmes that Modi has initiated like multiplying watchmen all over the country. One such is "Main Bhi Chowkidar" Fatima Nafees. Her son -- Najeeb Ahmed -- disappeared under mysterious circumstances from his hostel room in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) three years ago. Three agencies made inquiry but failed to unearth any result. "If you are a chowkidar, then tell me where is my son Najeeb? Why ABVP goons not arrested? Why three top agencies failed to find my son?" she questioned in a tweet, along with a hashtag that read #WhereIsNajeeb. Another matter is that of Swami Asimanand. The case of attack on Samjhauta express was investigated by the Haryana police who uncovered many involved in that attack of February 18, 2007 and the same were behind the Malegaon bomb blasts of September 8, 2006. Then how come the results of Haryana police findings not shared by other investigations made by NIA and even the confession of Asimanand under section 186? Why is the PM so insouciant in these matters? This casual indifference of Narendra Modi contrasts with his carefully choosing judges to bring one who would acquit Babu Bajrangi in the earlier days when he was absconding in Gujarat state guest house at Mr Abu. Under his watch of his state all the 20 or more fake encounters took place he carefully made speeches to garner votes and win election and also saw that the cases include his own minister Haren Pandya’s conspiratorial murder ended up in suborning of justice. Modi’s silence is deafening as events are multiplying with ominous implications. Why was 50 Kgs of RDX taken to Pulwama? Why did he remain silent over the Haryana attack on a Muslim family? Why did the attackers ask the family to leave India and play cricket in Pakistan despite a tricolor fluttering atop the house. This would only confirm the belief that the PM does not want Muslims to live in India, but go to Pakistan. The jaw of the shark of RSS is opening widely! All this reminds of how Hemant Karkare, who briefly headed Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra and was killed for his honesty. Since then there is a shift that only Muslims must be arrested and Hindus cannot be terrorists. As Arun Jaitly says, with hindsight on Upwama, that the last nail in the coffin of Hindutva terrorism is stuck in. How can that be! Playing politics on the issue of terrorism is the oxygen. The aim is forced exodus of Muslims of India. Among discoveries of Karkare was the geo-political strategic implication of a group[Abhinav Bharat] that was hell bent to have realignment of strategic diplomatic and far reaching relationships with external and internal groups and forces. In foreign diplomatic and strategic relations the group had already secured a representation of the Israelis who had attended a conspiracy meeting within the jurisdiction of India without the knowledge of the central government or the foreign office. Their meeting was aimed to plan and cause sabotage within India for which the group within India was seeking steady supply of explosives, arms and ammunition. It wanted safe haven for refuge for the group members if the government in Delhi chose to crack upon the group. As if that were not enough the group within the country wanted its designed saffron flag to fly over its diplomatic centre in Tel Aviv. Sudhakar Dwedi: I told you on that day. Two Israelis had come to meet me. They sat here. And we talked something here. They are going to give us whatever is first cooperation (we seek). Purohit: They have already given us. They have demanded everything on the net and by fax. They have created an email ID. We cannot access it. They get it from us in draft in a box. They know the pass word for it and we do not know it. They use the pass word and open and see it. OK NOT OK NOT ACCEPTED they say only. This brief conversation between the two members of Abhinav Bharat indicates the depth of involvement. The Israelis had already paid a secret visit and wanted two instances of work done within the country by the Abhinav Bharat as surety for extending help clandestinely to the Hindutva organization. The two instances could very well be the first Malegaon attack on September 8, 2006 and February18, 2007 attack on Samjhauta Express . The next and more important is that the Israelis are cleverer than the desi chankyas for they do not want any trail left that leads to them. For example India being a democratic country may seek explanation from Israel so there should be no proof that would point an accusing finger at them. If the Abhinav Bharat or RSS members were caught by Indian police they should not spill the beans that would embarrass the Israelis. The crisis in Jammu and Kashmir Who reset the clock to 1993?
What blunder has brought such a crisis in J&K that many perceive that India is killing its own people rather than the terrorists or the armed militants fighting the army. The long promised plebiscite has simply become an illusion. Instead there is the shackle of abolition of the kind of limited autonomy that was promised decades ago. The Kashmiris of this new generation have not lost the relevance of history. They do not need to read the Irish history and the plight of the people there. The protagonist in The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man muses thus: – Do you know what Ireland is? Asked Stephen with cold violence. Ireland is the old sow that eats her farrow? He claims that Ireland metaphorically devours its own children. All this on account of Ireland’s thwarted sense of nationhood. The Kashmiris in the valley have a distinct culture. That does not match with that of different groups of Muslims in the rest of the country. They have different aspirations, too.
Their movement is for freedom, called azadi. In the rest of the country there is no such thing. Hence when they are killed by the security forces they want their dead bodies buried in the graveyard meant for freedom fighters, their martyrs. When Kashmiris are hanged like Maqbool Bhatt or Afzal Guru their burial into Indian soil is a moment of anguish. On the mainland India there is no such ground for those who laid down their life for building a temple or a graveyard of Muslims killed in riots and pogroms.
With the return of governor’s rule after Ramzan cease fire 2018 there is recrudescence of more killings and threat to civilian life. The new dispensation under NN Vohra is also contemplating not returning the bodies of the locals killed in police action. The reason: more charged atmosphere would make people more prone to violence, and protest. It is strange that the PM of India way back on February 28, 2002 was chief minister of Gujarat. He had allowed the bodies of those killed in Sabarmati Express fire incident at Godhra to be displayed after handing them over to the virulent RSS wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad. That was done deliberately to turn the people against the Muslims and it started the pogroms. It lasted full three days that killed more than a thousand innocent Muslims.
The earlier time such pogroms visited India was in 1992 and 1993. Indian politics had a watershed in 1993. The clock was reset then and there thanks to the BJP leaders AB Vajpayee and LK Advani in the PM Narsimh aura. In the massacre of more than 50 Kashmiris at Bijbehara during the siege of Hazratbal on October 22 1993 only one BSF jawan was injured. Human Rights Watch had thus rejected Indian explanation of this ambush. Many know that the massacre was the offshoot of former Governor Jagmohan’s insistence for more repressive measure he voiced on July 15 1993 even after his two terms as governor in Kashmir – from 1984 to 89, and then from January to May 1990.. The government inquiry in 1994 indicted 14 BSF jawans for firing into the crowd. However the Vajpayee government later acquitted all the accused. It was this that led to US assistant secretary of State Department Robin Raphel rejecting India’s Instrument of Accession of Kashmir. Her statement in the background briefing was, “As I said, we view Kashmir as a disputed territory. We do not recognise...(pause)...that instrument of accession as meaning that Kashmir is forevermore an integral part of India. And there are many issues at play in that timeframe, as we all here know.”[1] There is no permanent enemy as far as foreign affairs are concerned. PM Nehru took the issue of Kashmir to UNO when the relations between the neighbours were not of the nature as of today. Comparing them in terms of a popular movie is less in significance than a master piece of frustrated nationalism.
The situation on the ground in Kashmir is at a flash point. There is imminent danger to the civilians despite the reported claim that the National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval and not the governor is on watch in the state. And he advocates peace in the valley on the second anniversary of Burhan Wani . The agitated populace and not the militant leaders, on the other hand, is issuing ultimatum. In Lonepora village pictures of those who laid their life in their struggle for freedom was displayed. A native invited the media. “Take a picture of this. Show India that we are not afraid. Shake them up.” [2]Such a sense of finality was never seen before. If that was on the eve of the death anniversary of Burhan Wani, in fast motion was on in the village of Hawoora an encounter and in cheek by jowl attack on protesters in which 21-year-old Shakir Khanday and 14-year old Andlee Jan lost their life in firing by the security. The killing instinct was manifest in action. This was buttressed by soldiers entering lanes and by lanes and throwing stones at the tin shed houses forcing inmates to come out and be shot. “We have orders to kill you whenever we have to.”

Dynamics of defeat of BJP in Kairana
It is a truth universally acknowledged by varying degrees of frankness and disingenuousness that Hindutva party BJP’s forte is rank communalism. The resultant division of the society is a feather in the black cap modeled on Mussolini fascism. .
However, now the target in 2019 general election is not provincial, NW UP or Gujarat but the whole India. As ala 2002 the interest in building temple at Ayodhya is sagging. Milking the same old family cow doesn’t yield much after so many deliveries. A wholesale repeat of 2002 Gujarat or 2013 Mujaffarnagar could.
The Jats and Muslims had lived together in harmony and peace in Muzaffarnagar, Kairana, etc, and had maintained it during the most turbulent years of partition, too. Muzaffarnagar and areas around were untouched by communal virus until the duo Narendra Modi and Amit Shah came on the scene in 2013in preparation for general election next year. It was dreadfully ominous and proved what was most feared. They sowed the first seeds of communalism and hatred by focusing the susceptible Rajputs and Jats how their honour was hurt.
“For the integrity of the community, the answer is Modi. Not the government who gives compensation to those who killed Jats.” [1]This way of connecting events was first ever of its kind in the north western UP. It came from the Hindutva stormy petrel in UP, Amit Shah. His arrival in UP and marking his initiating poll campaign by visiting Ayodhya Babri mosque site where the Ram temple is coming up was enough of provocation. It must have been so alarming that pat came the warning: khuni prachar, dharm ka thekaydar, abki bar atyachar. This was a repeat of the revival of the temple dispute at the time of the tenth anniversary of Babri demolition in 2002 in Gujarat. Use of religion for election windfall.
“Bloody campaign, authorized by religion, this time cruelty, violence.”
Modi was a pracharak or leader of the RSS and his campaign was based on religion and the logical outcome was cruelty and violence. The warning was sinister in view of what Shah told next: “This is the time to avenge. The leader standing next to me” [Suresh Rana and Hukum Singh] have also been humiliated. A man can sleep hungry but not humiliated. This is the time to take revenge by voting for Modi. This will defeat both the governments, the one at the centre and UP government who lathi-charged and tortured our leaders.” He was speaking at Raajhar, Lissad, forty kilometers from Muzaffarnagar. Next stop was at the Raja Rani Hall of Shamli. Among prominent khap leaders present there was Ajit Singh accused of fanning violence in September 2013. Another leader was Udayvir Pehelka. He demanded two things: “If Amit Shah has come to talk to us, he must promise that he will help us withdraw all the false cases against the Jats and secondly, address a national problem, which is to control the population of this country, else soon enough votes from our community will not count and only they [Muslims] will be present everywhere.” Both are political demands which Modi has in the past shown proclivity to handle with deft. In 2002 he had sent DG Vanzara who had arrested the culprits behind Naroda Patia massacres. But he treated them with the food meant for the government officers in the government guest house and then left the arrested killers and rapists. This he could not have done without the approval of the Chief Minister Modi. Even in grave charges against some of them like Dr Maya Kodnani, Modi went soft and refused to appeal for harsher punishment when Shiv Sena leaders put pressure on him.
The second demand is also political and Modi has shown great vigour in it. He has always passed slur on the Muslims for producing large number of children who are threat to development in Gujarat. He even insulted them by calling them unseemly as they appear in dirty apparel by the side of roads with their work of repairing vehicles and hence greasy. This is a fear psychosis of the RSS paranoia over the greater rate of children born among the Muslims.
Shah took the stage and gave the message loud and clear: “This election is the election of honour and revenge.” “And when we protect them [Rana and Singh, Sangeet Singh Som], we are called rioters because Mullah Mulayam is busy defending the minority.” Next attack of Shah was on the food Muslims eat and how they procure it through their community butchers who have prospered by exporting meat. He quoted Modi “stop pink revolution and herald in green revolution.” Shah’s jibes came sharp and stinging: “Beggars have turned millionaires by running butcher houses.”
Shah ended by entering into another controversial theme of the three Indian soldiers who according to defense minister AK Antony were beheaded by Indian soldiers and not by the Pakistan army: “When Narendra Modi comes to power on May 16, Pakistan will learn a lesson for beheading our three soldiers.” “Utter Pradesh has always played a role in a change. This time western Utter Pradesh must ensure that Modi comes to power.”
The strategy that the RSS employed was marked with intimidation and anti constitutional mechanism to win election. To boost the morale of its cadres, the RSS had decided to hold dand yudhs (where cadres will display their lathi-wielding skills) in every city on March 30, 2014 as part of its Hindu New Year celebrations and on April 1 to mark the birth anniversary of founder K B Hedgewar.
Though the RSS’s stated focus is “vote bane (voters are registered)”, “vote kate (fake voters are removed)”, and “vote pade (votes are cast)”, sources say most of the effort is to ensure the second, “vote kate”. They also made it clear that the cadres would not hesitate to defend themselves and become aggressive if need arises. The photos covering the news were really frightening. They were daring to appropriate the role of police and paramilitary forces.
After five years another election is round the corner in 2019 the same situation prevails. The situation has invariably returned to 2013 in Western UP as BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that his party candidate’s defeat in Kairana bypolls was the defeat of Hindus and victory of Muslims. “If one religious group (Muslims) decides to polarize, then other groups (Hindus) too will polarize. This shouldn’t happen but if one group has voted en masse for a particular candidate, then please mark my words this will have its effect across India.” That is in 2019 elections. [2]
There are enough forebodings of it and they are assuming ominous shapes like Dalits and Naxalites blamed for possible attack on Modi ala Rajiv Gandhi. The same old threat of Soharabiddin Shaikh, Ishrat Jahan, and others on the way to kill Modi, etc. As in north western UP in 2013-14 campaign so is now the RSS is directly intervening.
One aspect of it was the invitation to former President Pranab Mukherjee to address the third year cadets of RSS at the headquarters of RSS on June 7. It was a testing of the water on which RSS wanted its choice of PM to sail as the wind had turned against Modi after the Karnataka and Kairana failure. What if Mukherjee could be a candidate for the post of Prime Minister whom an alliance of parties including BJP would accept?
Sanjay Raut is active member of Shiv Sena and a long time member of Parliament. He is also the editor of Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna. He and his party do struggle for their distinct identity of being Hindutva but with a flair for their own position under the sun. His party is at loggerheads with BJP government. He thinks that in case BJP cannot win next election they would support Mukherjee as their candidate for the PM’s post.
The other fallout of Kairana defeat is that the RSS conclave began with dinner hosted by the PM Modi on Friday June 15, 2018 to RSS pracharaks at Surajkund, Haryana. The site is close to north western UP that has the background of newly sown seeds of hatred of Jats and Rajputs for their erstwhile neighbours with whom they had good relations until the pogroms replicated in September 2013. The eyesore is of course the alliance between the parties who supported Tabassum Hasan. It is most probable the BJP would target the alliance by creating communal tension which had always fetched votes to the party. One must remember that those behind bomb blasts in 2006-2008 were RSS pracharaks. Through the pracharaks RSS would deploy the most tried and tested strategy of dividing people on communal lines and reaping the fruits of hatred at the hustings of fast approaching parliamentary election of 2019. However, all the tactics of the ruling party are less than democratic in nature, physical force through the baton, riots and pogroms. Chances of democracy surviving is bleak. What with secretariat building, dividers and statues, a toll plaza being painted in saffron colour and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis giving the chief of Siddhivinayak temple trust a junior minister's status!
Fadnavis was purportedly heard telling BJP workers to use "saam, daam, dand, bhed (negotiation, money, punishment and division)" to win the bypoll [3] Thus there is likelihood of creating more divisions to win election. Every division will mean more bloodshed.

Holding one's view in democracy
<
When India won freedom from Britain there was concern and misgivings. It was on account of the paramilitary organization called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. It was not just the nonparticipation of its cadres in the freedom struggle. But the kind of atmosphere RSS had prepared in the countryside and towns and continues it defiantly by all kinds of prevarication and sophistry. It is this that is now posing a mortal threat to Indian democracy.
What has crystallized now over again is the milieu that is the widening gyre of turf war that is definitely assuming a civil war scenario on the western coasts of India. The consolidating the north eastern states are another phenomenon of the same. That Kashmir and Punjab fronts boil up occasionally is continuing of the same juggernaut.
What chances of democracy in India when the kind of incidents that happen every now and then which go against the spirit and the idea of India! The assassination of ATS chief Hemant Karkare and the bail given to Lt Co Prasad Purohit, the evading of court appearances by Amit Shah in the Naroda Patiya genocide involving Dr Maya Kodnani, the midnight murder of Gauri Lankesh, etc. The prevarication and justification taking law in the hand and killing people for a cause of nationalism that excludes minorities of all hues and colours! But the murder of Gauri over rides religious and linguistic and provincial groupings. The lady in charge of the RSS conglomerates in Kerala generalizes and justifies continuing turf war in Kerala and now spreading to other coastal states: “Such a murder was necessary for the Congress in Karnataka, which is in a weak position. So, I want to tell the secular writers that if they want a long life, they should go and conduct mrityunjaya homam [obituary] as none can predict what will happen. Otherwise, you would also become victims like Gauri.’’
Sasikala dilates: “What all things have been artificially created to oppose Hindutva. The Sangh Parivar should be opposed. Finally, another one has fallen. What is her name, Gauri. Gauri Lankesh….. Now they all say she was killed by the RSS. The accused hasn’t be [sic] so far nabbed. The Congress (government in Karnataka) has to nab the culprit. The reason stated is that she used to oppose the RSS.” “… Only those writers to oppose the RSS would be recognized as writers. Can you give names of writers who do not oppose the RSS? Is there anyone who does not write against the RSS? Only those who write against the RSS would get money, awards and recognition. Ninety out of hundred writers are like that.” [1]Through such sophistry has RSS turned the table on those who oppose it!
If Indian democracy is doomed to die since its birth at the time of Independence and even before it is this hideous ideology of hatred. Thomas Jefferson wrote the constitution of the US with the classic opening phrase “We the people” India also kept the precedent with “We the People”. Golwalkar regarded as the philosopher and learned chief of RSS took up “We” as the title of his book and added a parenthesis: or the Nation defined. The people who would constitute India would be only those who accept India as their mother and the land as their mother-land-and-father-land.
The chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, called the shooting and killing of Gauri Lankesh (55) on September 5, 2017 in Bangalore as an "assassination on democracy". Her father was P Lankesh a left wing writer and her sister and famous film maker Kavitha Lankesh are liberals. Many writers and artists had returned their awards when Akhlak was killed in Dadri near Delhi. Thereafter there was a pattern of killing of Muslims who bore no grudge against Hindus but were murdered on the false pretext of eating beef even when they hadn’t done so, in fact. But the murder of Gauri is another pattern in the mosaic of Hindutva terror. This group is of writers and editors who are fearless but rational in their criticism of bigotry, and ruthless onslaught on free speech. As the noted Kannad writer K Marulasiddappa told the BBC: "The attack on the select writers is obviously happening because they are able to mould public opinion... there is a pattern in the way assailants come on motorbikes, kill, and vanish.
"There cannot be any personal reasons attributed to her death because she had no personal enemies. So, the possibility is only political.'' [2]RSS prates every now and then that it is not a political organization but a cultural one. However every time the name of RSS figures in bomb blasts or cow vigilantism or rationalism versus blind superstition and adherence to it the organization reveals its hidden agenda. It is to establish a political dispensation through the establishment of a Hindu nation. Indresh Kumar had added his weight in favour of the Maoists in Nepal at the cost of the monarchy. Purohit, yogi Adithnath, DR RP Sigh, Bharatbhai Riteshwar were in favour of the Hindu royal family. This was one of the reasons why Purohit wanted to kill Kumar.
Gauri Lankesh was in the eye of the right wing leaders including Indresh Kumar and Sanathan Sansthan for her outspoken belief in democracy: "My Constitution teaches me to be a secular citizen, not communal. It is my right to fight against these communal elements." “I believe in democracy and freedom of expression, and hence, am open to criticism too. People are welcome to call me anti-BJP or anti-Modi, if they want to. They are free to have their own opinion, just as I am free to have my opinion." [2]
That freedom of having one’s own opinion was the focus of what Prof Bhalchander Nemade spoke about and demonstrated in Malegaon on March 10 2018 when he addressed a gathering in Sane Gruji Revabagh Camp and Kakani Library. He had a ring side view of events that were shaping in his birth place Sangli under social reformer Shahu Maharaj and later in the campus of Marathwada University at Aurangabad. He also created and availed from the background as he stayed in the staff quarters where my classmate and wife of Prof Pandrinath Vishnu Ranade of history also lived. Her house was ransacked because her husband had written something very frank about Shivaji, the Maratha king. For some days he was out of the university and worked at the Red Square in Moscow. PM Mrs Indira Gandhi restored Ranade to his post at Marathwada Univeristy when President Khrushchev spoke to her on his behalf. He was a communist minded person but a nice researcher and scholar. Another well known scholar was Nirupama Rao [nee Menon] who strictly kept to her pursuit and did MA in English IAS and IFS at the Aurangabad university campus later she became our foreign secretary, etc. It was possible to have lived so freely then. But now the country has been transformed. That was why Prof Nemade felt the need to speak at Malegaon what he said so lucidly.
The Padmshri awardee stated that the spread of Christianity around the world halted due to the struggle Muslims made against the Christians. In India it were the Muslims who had raised their voice against the oppression and suppression practiced by the Christians. As a consequence of it the Hindu religion survived. In fact the Christians wanted to turn the whole of the country into another solely Christian kingdom. The English started communal divide in India. There was no dispute between the Muslims and Hindus till the English arrived. There was no dispute between the Muslims and Hindus and hence no tension between them. As an example of it was the appointment of Muslims in important posts in the courts of Hindu rulers.
Nemade cited documents to show that the Popes wanted Indians converted to Christianity. In the 1857 struggle to recapture power from the British there was resultant violence in which Muslims saved Hindus and gave them refuge. Bhuddists even migrated to save themselves in Iraq and Iran in the aftermath of the violence. This happened during the British rule in India. All this was in direct contrast with the situation prevailing in the country today. [3]
