Doomsday Democracy, Freaking out…for a world without Islam
Introduction
In a democratic country there is no place for uncommunicative and secretive top executive of the country, the Prime Minister. In matters relating to the security of the Muslims minority PM Narendra Modi is the epitome of the cagey politician, the very opposite of Canadian PM Justin Trudeav. His ministers in his own cabinet and in the states across the country are holding out threats to the life and property of the minority community on daily basis. They also vaunt their culture of impunity as if they have already achieved what is dear to them, a Hindu theocracy—a Hindu nation and state where Muslims cannot exist. “We create our own realities.”[1] Those words of President George Bush’s official just before Iraq war was ominous. Neither had President Sadam Hussein any weapon of mass destruction nor was he an ally of Osama bin Laden. Bush and Blair created their own realities to go to war. Their bouts of wildly irrational reaction and spell of such behaviour cost huge number of casualties. Neither Iraq nor India had anything to do with 9/11 attacks on New York and Pentagon. To the US led on war on terror Narndra Modi also joined by calling 9/11 as Islamic terrorism. Within a month of the attack Modi arrived in Gujarat and assumed the office of chief minister. In just over four months he won election on February 24 2002 and created history by calling the fire incident on Sabarmati Express on February 27 2002 at Godhra as terrorist attack mounted by Pakistan Inter Services Intelligence. There were trade rivalries in Gujarat between the rich Hindu traders with non Hindus. Each wanted to get the best of the buriness and industry. However “the RSS and the VHP build on all kinds of false resentments to generate an anger of the Hindu middle-class and sections of the Hindu working-class. One of the issues they played on was the obvious business savoir-faire of the Bohras and Khojas—only a fraction of the ten per cent-odd of the state’s Muslim population –because they had a visible hand in the commercial world.”[2] The fire on the train at Godhra gave them an opportunity to wreak havoc on the Muslims at large. For more than a year Modi and his BJP did not name who would be the chief ministerial candidate in UP election campaign. When the results enthused them he revealed his hand in picking up the hardliner Yogi Aditnarayan. There is a hidden agenda of the RSS which militates against democracy in which all are equal and there is no discrimination on the basis of religion, caste or province. However the recentely declassified CIA report shows that RSS was deeply racist and that was one reason why General Carriappa was targetted. Since then the RSS has grown in power and there is every reason that the premonition of 1950s is coming home to roost. “Without going into whodunit, the second paragraph by the informer moves on to report about the parochial divide among the officers and accuse the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) of fomenting unrest among officers. “Cariappa as South Indian is resented by the Sikh officers of the Indian Army. The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh) is capitalizing on the North-South split among army officers, persuading Sikh officers, whom informant considers treacherous and unreliable, to spread dissension. Officers from Travancore (later Kerala), Madras and Maharashtra are invariable loyal to General Cariappa”. There was another danger that the RSS saw in the field marshal at the time of the parition. If RSS could assassinate Mahatma Gandhi for returning money to Pakistan that India owed to the neighbout Carrppa was also doing the same apart from being dark skilled south Indians who are not Aryan in descent and cannot be true Indians according to the racism of RSS. “The eastern part, which became part of India, was renamed as the state of Punjab in 1950 after a lot of bloodshed. It was Cariappa’s responsibility to split the military assets between India and Pakistan as the eastern army commander before he became commander in chief, a post which was later renamed as Chief of Army Staff.” [3] RSS had infiltrated the army in those heady days and it was capable of liquidating the field marshal. In this conspiracy even higher officers were also involved. Six of them were hanged. It was strictly kept secret. However CIA which came in existence in 1947 kept the report and declassified in 2017. There is a racist angle that is subtly hidden. The RSS views itself as an organization which holds the writings of Guru Golwakar as sacred. That Golwalkar indulged in racism of the Nazis is an open secret. It comes out in prounouncemnt in indirect references. Tarun Vijay on April 7, 2017 tried to look at the attack on the Nigerians in Greater Noida when he spoke: “If we were racist, why would we have all the entire south…Tamil, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra…why do we live with them? We have black people around us.” His plural first person pronoun “we” reminds one of Golwalkar’s gospel of RSS, WE and Bunch of Thoughts. He wrote “the truth of our nationalism is an ancient fact and the Hindus being the national society of Bharat, so clearly restated by our revered founder when he decided the word “Rashtriya” for our organization. We must once again stand up to our true and full status and boldy assert that we shall elevate Hindu National life in Bharat to the peak of glory and honour which has been its birth righ since hoary time.” Even Modi is on record when he told during a foreign visit that Indians were not respected because of what they were but now there is change, meaning since the ascendence of BJP to power at centre and now in states like UP. This latter day realization is frought with the posture of majoritarianism vis-à-vis minorities. As Golwalkar also put it when he referred to the Constituent Assembly members on the issue: “They forget that here was a full-fledged ancient nation of the Hindus and the various commmunities, which were living in the country, were here either as guests, the Jews and Parsis, or as invaders, the Muslim and Christians. They never faced the question how all such heterogeneous groups could be called as children of the soil merely because by an accident, they happened to reside in a common territory under the rule of a common enemy.” As the RSS is a racist organization and is utterly intolerant but capable of sophistry in denying the undeniable. This is strkly visible in the wildly irrational belief of Tarun Vijay. People reacted very sharply. A noted Kannada writer Vivek Shanbagh remarked: "The root cause of racism is intolerance towards the other. It's shameful that we have politicians who have racist thoughts deep inside them and that's why it has come out. When you are put under pressure, the real self comes out. He was trying to hide his racist thoughts, but could not. I am shocked and shocked." Another Indian was evern more frank: "We are all 'coloured', as Americans call it. More than 90% of Indians are dark complexioned. We are obsessed with the notion of fairness, despite our gods being dark in colour, and we are racist. Such statements by Tarun dent the pan-Indian nationalism and culturalism that they have been trying to advocate. The divide between North and South is always there and that's sad," [4]Another dissenting voice and also from the south is that of former Infoscion and educationist T V Mohandas Pai who says that there is larger implication than colour of skin. It is in essence Brahmanism allied with upper caste and the rest. The kind of nationalism that Tarun Vijay embodies is clear from exclusivist vision of nationalism when he speaks tongue in cheek: “You are denying your own nation, you are denying your ancestry, you are denying your culture."In fact there was no denial on the part of the south Indians who spoke against him. They were articulating their frustration over the fact that they are Dravidean and the Aryan mindset of RSS does not want them to be in their fold. Those who are with the RSS have either religion or power or communalism as the driving force. The Nagas and others from the North East India are much fairer and still are attacked and killed and injured by the right wing Hindus because of their being Christians. Golwarlkar considered Muslims and christians as invaders and Jews and Parsis as guests. The question that arises is who was the host who welcomed them into India. This leads fruther who were the Hindu monarch who invited Mehmud Gaznavi to come and attack and plunder the wealth of Somnath temple and share the spoils with the invaders? Of all the Indians it is the followers of RSS who indulge in creating realities like the imperialist white Americans and Jews. It was Bernard Lewis who advised President George Bush to attack Iraq and Afghanistan and the most illiterate President Bush followed his advice. PM Atal Bihari had also been swayed to amass troops to wage war on Pakistan. The ebullient mood of the RSS was on display when on March 15 2000 a Muslim carrying a bundle of grass was killed on the day of Bakrid. And much earlier in 1991 Hindu women in Gujarat had pushed from the balcony of second floor a Muslim NGO worker to his death because they did not want Muslims to live in Hindu areas. Who is creating whose realities in 21st century India by asserting “We have blacks, black people around us”? Wildly irrational reaction is systematically demonstrated much like the Newtonian third law of action and reaction as Modi justfied 15 years ago. The killing of Pehlu Khan a farmer carrying his milch cow and heifer to his farm in Alwar, Rajasthan had legal documents of sale and ownership and yet he was killed and his family attacked and FIR lodged by the police that they were smuggling cows! Such reaction led to Dadri killing of Akhlaq whose son was in air force and a devoted patriotic Indian. Why are the extremists feaking themselves out for an India without Muslims? In the aftermath of the landslide victory in UP elections Indian democracy has become what the stand up comedy Aisi Taisi Democracy describes as the rodent in the mouth of the snake who cannot swallow it nor can eject it. This is the birth pang of creating new realities. A few days later Vijay tried to mollify the situation and landed in worse verbosity when he phrased it differently the same remark: “we have fought racism and we have people with different colour and culture, and still never had any racism,” The point he missed and even P Chidambrum could not react to is that the spring source of RSS is hatred for minorities and they would never be able to stomach Pakistan. The stand up comedy says that the buses that Shiv Sena activists were torching led to the extinction of the dinosaurs (buses). The buses would self bust themselves at the sight of the irate Sainiks. The RSS also lives with the illusion that Pakistan would self bust itself at the strong India that the RSS wants to turn into the vision of Bharat they have. The RSS saved its energy by shunning the freedom movement of Mahatma Gandhi for a later day fight they would wage against the Muslims. Their words prove that they are steady in their efforts and that has started bearing fruits. A whole community of butchers has been deprived of their livelihood and their righ to eat the food they and other Musllims and even Hindus like to eat. Instead of creating jobs for Indians within India we see ruination of jobs and sources of eating healthy food. So another dinosaurs is on the verge of extinction. The murder of Alwar farmer Pehlu Khan is continuing of the same juggernaut of Hindutva. The litmust test that proved Vijay cagey is that he and his RSS never fought racism. As their another gospel Anand Math of Bankam Chand Chatterjee shows they found the British benign and progressive and embraced them. They considered British rule as benevolent to India. Even the father of former PM AB Vajpayee gave untertaking that his son would behave favourably to the British and got him released from prison during his college days. But the crux of the matter is Vijay using the word ‘culture’. India is growing into a monolithic culture which is saffron and is intolerant of people of different cultures. Instead of firing Chief Minister Modi from his post Vajpayee allowed him to continue because Muslims do not live with their neighbours peacefully. That conclave of BJP at Goa in September 2002 showed their true colour. Modi showed his hand by picking up Yogi Adityanath for UP and that kind of “perilous embracing”; carrying on hard core Hindutva ideilogy in the garb of development. There is a culture of impunity of which Vijay never even hints because it involves cow vigilantism. He and others in RSS. VHP, Bajrang Dal take it as a matter of their right because to them might is right. Alwar and Dadri have gone into history. So has the conclave at Goa where PM Vajpayee wanted to replace Modi in Gujarat but the hardliners prevented him from doing his own rajdharm. He had said at 4 pm on February 27, 2002 that the fire on the train at Godhra was just accident. He even wrote a letter to Modi on June 1, 2002 which is a detailed intervention into the affairs of a state, that too Gujarat! He was aware of the roads in Gujarat were in the hands of the RSS, Bajrang Dal etc. If it was 2002, Alwar also witnessed how the road there was in the control of the cow vigilantes for more than two hours when the activists and hardliners beat up again and again farmers who were carrying cows for their farm for milking. They were milkmen. One of them was beaten to pulp and died on the road. The police stood and watched the lynching and mahem. One of the cops laughed at the event, why has this happened? It was because Vajpayee and Modi both are captive to the RSS ideology. Thus Indian democracy is doomed to die because we have the rulers and their hordes who do not cherish the values of democracy nor have the institutions established by the Constitution of the Republic of India cultivated the culture of civilized law and order and fair play. Why the clash of civilization in India which has such long history of civilization? ------ [1] Graham E Fuller. A World Without Islam. Chapter 1
Intervention and culture of impunity
PM Vajpayee’s letter to CM Modi on June 1, 2002 was intervention. But as it turned out to be strategy to prevent the matter of Godhra going to parliament. Vajpayee had asserted at 4 pm on February 27, 2002 that there was no conspiracy behind the fire. But more facts emerged and Modi had allowed Hindus taking revenge to grow into pogroms of Muslims etc to such an extent that the international community was disturbed. The PM visited Gujarat two months later and exhorted that Modi do his dharm, or moral duty to rule. Another month passed and he noticed that Modi had simply done nothing to either protect Muslims or improve the conditions in the refugee camps. It was then he wrote to Modi in detail what he ought to do but had defiantly failed to do. It was at this time that the culture of impunity had its origin. It should be he rather than parliament as intervener. Interveners or petitioners are supposed to be people of sanity and are expected to do their yeomanry service to ameliorate a situation. What more did the tragic situation in Gujarat demand at that time when pogroms were still going on? As Teesta Setalvad remarks that interventions are not taken as seriously as the mighty state. Modi did not care either. “Interventions are subtly relegated into a hierarchy. Procedural fair play is subverted and substantive shifts take place in jurisprudence.” “…status quo tolerates intervention up to a point, but appears to fall short of delivering radical, real and substantive justice. The system engages with the survivors and defenders in the early years, but a shake up of status quo demands an exceptional judicial mind. ” Vajpayee wrote to Modi informing him that “there was gross under assesement of damages.” “It is possible that, for various reasons, the teams involved in work have assessed the damages on the lower side. In the interest of justice and fair play, it will be expedient to conduct test checks in selected areas. If the test chckes do confirm under-assessment, the state government will reassess the damages in areas with large-scale complaints. I have also been informed that in a large number of cases, the relatives of the dead are yet to be paid the ex gratia because bodies are yet to be identified and also, applications regarding missing persons are yet to be disposed of. The inordinate delay in the disbursement of ex-gratia payments is a matter of concern.” The PM considered DNA checks as hurdle in the payment “leading to further unacceptable delay.” “It is natural that the residents of the worst affected areas may be reluctant to return to their original places of residence and demand relocation in safer areas. Ideally, at atmosphere should be created whereby thse people gain enough confidence to resettle at the original place of residence.” He cautioned the CM that “particularly in the worst affected areas like Nardoa Patiya in Ahmadabad and Lunawada in Panchamahal, active goernment support during their relocation only protect themf rom unscrupulous elements.” “Needless to say that undue influence by such elements will only exacerbate the already complicated situation.”[1] There is hardly any doubt that the PM was chiding Modi for not doing his moral duty which he should have done long back. The three months delay must have multiplied the sufferings manifold. That Modi was intransigent ran deep into the lines Vajpayee wrote. Two months ago had pat replied that he was doing his rajdharm. That must have outraged the PM because it was a surly CM whose audacity to imprudently pat reply that moral duty he had already been doing and there was no need for the PM to mouth it in open! This is the stuff of impunity moulded in the smithy of Gujarat. From this there has mushroomed the rich culture of impunity all over India now that likes of Modi are in UP at the helms of affair of state. That is why New Yoak Time editorial was wraning on March 23, 2017 of what would come of Mr Modi’s perilous embrace of Hindu extremists.[2] However, there is a ray of hope that amendment of section 24(8)(2) of the Code ofCriminal Procedure in 2009 has given the victim complainants the statutory right to intervene in criminal trials to assist the prosecution. What even PM Vajpayee could not achieve is available for the citizens of this wonderful country to try. We still have the same Constitution. Let us respect and carry it out in our daily life to make the country what it stood for, a truly secular constitutional democracy. [1]Footsoldiers of the Constitution, pp. 148-149, 209. Chapter 2
Holding one's view in democracy
When India won freedom from Britain there was concern and misgivings. It was on account of the paramilitary organization called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. It was not just the nonparticipation of its cadres in the freedom struggle. But the kind of atmosphere RSS had prepared in the countryside and towns and continues it defiantly by all kinds of prevarication and sophistry. It is this that is now posing a mortal threat to Indian democracy. What has crystallized now over again is the milieu that is the widening gyre of turf war that is definitely assuming a civil war scenario on the western coasts of India. The consolidating the north eastern states are another phenomenon of the same. That Kashmir and Punjab fronts boil up occasionally is continuing of the same juggernaut. What chances of democracy in India when the kind of incidents that happen every now and then which go against the spirit and the idea of India! The assassination of ATS chief Hemant Karkare and the bail given to Lt Co Prasad Purohit, the evading of court appearances by Amit Shah in the Naroda Patiya genocide involving Dr Maya Kodnani, the midnight murder of Gauri Lankesh, etc. The prevarication and justification taking law in the hand and killing people for a cause of nationalism that excludes minorities of all hues and colours! But the murder of Gauri over rides religious and linguistic and provincial groupings. The lady in charge of the RSS conglomerates in Kerala generalizes and justifies continuing turf war in Kerala and now spreading to other coastal states: “Such a murder was necessary for the Congress in Karnataka, which is in a weak position. So, I want to tell the secular writers that if they want a long life, they should go and conduct mrityunjaya homam [obituary] as none can predict what will happen. Otherwise, you would also become victims like Gauri.’’ Sasikala dilates: “What all things have been artificially created to oppose Hindutva. The Sangh Parivar should be opposed. Finally, another one has fallen. What is her name, Gauri. Gauri Lankesh….. Now they all say she was killed by the RSS. The accused hasn’t be [sic] so far nabbed. The Congress (government in Karnataka) has to nab the culprit. The reason stated is that she used to oppose the RSS.” “… Only those writers to oppose the RSS would be recognized as writers. Can you give names of writers who do not oppose the RSS? Is there anyone who does not write against the RSS? Only those who write against the RSS would get money, awards and recognition. Ninety out of hundred writers are like that.” [1]Through such sophistry has RSS turned the table on those who oppose it! If Indian democracy is doomed to die since its birth at the time of Independence and even before it is this hideous ideology of hatred. Thomas Jefferson wrote the constitution of the US with the classic opening phrase “We the people” India also kept the precedent with “We the People”. Golwalkar regarded as the philosopher and learned chief of RSS took up “We” as the title of his book and added a parenthesis: or the Nation defined. The people who would constitute India would be only those who accept India as their mother and the land as their mother-land-and-father-land. The chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, called the shooting and killing of Gauri Lankesh (55) on September 5, 2017 in Bangalore as an "assassination on democracy". Her father was P Lankesh a left wing writer and her sister and famous film maker Kavitha Lankesh are liberals. Many writers and artists had returned their awards when Akhlak was killed in Dadri near Delhi. Thereafter there was a pattern of killing of Muslims who bore no grudge against Hindus but were murdered on the false pretext of eating beef even when they hadn’t done so, in fact. But the murder of Gauri is another pattern in the mosaic of Hindutva terror. This group is of writers and editors who are fearless but rational in their criticism of bigotry, and ruthless onslaught on free speech. As the noted Kannad writer K Marulasiddappa told the BBC: "The attack on the select writers is obviously happening because they are able to mould public opinion... there is a pattern in the way assailants come on motorbikes, kill, and vanish. "There cannot be any personal reasons attributed to her death because she had no personal enemies. So, the possibility is only political.'' [2]RSS prates every now and then that it is not a political organization but a cultural one. However every time the name of RSS figures in bomb blasts or cow vigilantism or rationalism versus blind superstition and adherence to it the organization reveals its hidden agenda. It is to establish a political dispensation through the establishment of a Hindu nation. Indresh Kumar had added his weight in favour of the Maoists in Nepal at the cost of the monarchy. Purohit, yogi Adithnath, DR RP Sigh, Bharatbhai Riteshwar were in favour of the Hindu royal family. This was one of the reasons why Purohit wanted to kill Kumar. Gauri Lankesh was in the eye of the right wing leaders including Indresh Kumar and Sanathan Sansthan for her outspoken belief in democracy: "My Constitution teaches me to be a secular citizen, not communal. It is my right to fight against these communal elements." “I believe in democracy and freedom of expression, and hence, am open to criticism too. People are welcome to call me anti-BJP or anti-Modi, if they want to. They are free to have their own opinion, just as I am free to have my opinion." [2] That freedom of having one’s own opinion was the focus of what Prof Bhalchander Nemade spoke about and demonstrated in Malegaon on March 10 2018 when he addressed a gathering in Sane Gruji Revabagh Camp and Kakani Library. He had a ring side view of events that were shaping in his birth place Sangli under social reformer Shahu Maharaj and later in the campus of Marathwada University at Aurangabad. He also created and availed from the background as he stayed in the staff quarters where my classmate and wife of Prof Pandrinath Vishnu Ranade of history also lived. Her house was ransacked because her husband had written something very frank about Shivaji, the Maratha king. For some days he was out of the university and worked at the Red Square in Moscow. PM Mrs Indira Gandhi restored Ranade to his post at Marathwada Univeristy when President Khrushchev spoke to her on his behalf. He was a communist minded person but a nice researcher and scholar. Another well known scholar was Nirupama Rao [nee Menon] who strictly kept to her pursuit and did MA in English IAS and IFS at the Aurangabad university campus later she became our foreign secretary, etc. It was possible to have lived so freely then. But now the country has been transformed. That was why Prof Nemade felt the need to speak at Malegaon what he said so lucidly. The Padmshri awardee stated that the spread of Christianity around the world halted due to the struggle Muslims made against the Christians. In India it were the Muslims who had raised their voice against the oppression and suppression practiced by the Christians. As a consequence of it the Hindu religion survived. In fact the Christians wanted to turn the whole of the country into another solely Christian kingdom. The English started communal divide in India. There was no dispute between the Muslims and Hindus till the English arrived. There was no dispute between the Muslims and Hindus and hence no tension between them. As an example of it was the appointment of Muslims in important posts in the courts of Hindu rulers. Nemade cited documents to show that the Popes wanted Indians converted to Christianity. In the 1857 struggle to recapture power from the British there was resultant violence in which Muslims saved Hindus and gave them refuge. Bhuddists even migrated to save themselves in Iraq and Iran in the aftermath of the violence. This happened during the British rule in India. All this was in direct contrast with the situation prevailing in the country today. Chapter 3
The crisis in Jammu and Kashmir Who reset the clock to 1993?
What blunder has brought such a crisis in J&K that many perceive that India is killing its own people rather than the terrorists or the armed militants fighting the army. The long promised plebiscite has simply become an illusion. Instead there is the shackle of abolition of the kind of limited autonomy that was promised decades ago. The Kashmiris of this new generation have not lost the relevance of history. They do not need to read the Irish history and the plight of the people there. The protagonist in The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man muses thus: – Do you know what Ireland is? Asked Stephen with cold violence. Ireland is the old sow that eats her farrow? He claims that Ireland metaphorically devours its own children. All this on account of Ireland’s thwarted sense of nationhood. The Kashmiris in the valley have a distinct culture. That does not match with that of different groups of Muslims in the rest of the country. They have different aspirations, too. Their movement is for freedom, called azadi. In the rest of the country there is no such thing. Hence when they are killed by the security forces they want their dead bodies buried in the graveyard meant for freedom fighters, their martyrs. When Kashmiris are hanged like Maqbool Bhatt or Afzal Guru their burial into Indian soil is a moment of anguish. On the mainland India there is no such ground for those who laid down their life for building a temple or a graveyard of Muslims killed in riots and pogroms. With the return of governor’s rule after Ramzan cease fire 2018 there is recrudescence of more killings and threat to civilian life. The new dispensation under NN Vohra is also contemplating not returning the bodies of the locals killed in police action. The reason: more charged atmosphere would make people more prone to violence, and protest. It is strange that the PM of India way back on February 28, 2002 was chief minister of Gujarat. He had allowed the bodies of those killed in Sabarmati Express fire incident at Godhra to be displayed after handing them over to the virulent RSS wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad. That was done deliberately to turn the people against the Muslims and it started the pogroms. It lasted full three days that killed more than a thousand innocent Muslims. The earlier time such pogroms visited India was in 1992 and 1993. Indian politics had a watershed in 1993. The clock was reset then and there thanks to the BJP leaders AB Vajpayee and LK Advani in the PM Narsimh aura. In the massacre of more than 50 Kashmiris at Bijbehara during the siege of Hazratbal on October 22 1993 only one BSF jawan was injured. Human Rights Watch had thus rejected Indian explanation of this ambush. Many know that the massacre was the offshoot of former Governor Jagmohan’s insistence for more repressive measure he voiced on July 15 1993 even after his two terms as governor in Kashmir – from 1984 to 89, and then from January to May 1990.. The government inquiry in 1994 indicted 14 BSF jawans for firing into the crowd. However the Vajpayee government later acquitted all the accused. It was this that led to US assistant secretary of State Department Robin Raphel rejecting India’s Instrument of Accession of Kashmir. Her statement in the background briefing was, “As I said, we view Kashmir as a disputed territory. We do not recognise...(pause)...that instrument of accession as meaning that Kashmir is forevermore an integral part of India. And there are many issues at play in that timeframe, as we all here know.”[1] There is no permanent enemy as far as foreign affairs are concerned. PM Nehru took the issue of Kashmir to UNO when the relations between the neighbours were not of the nature as of today. Comparing them in terms of a popular movie is less in significance than a master piece of frustrated nationalism. The situation on the ground in Kashmir is at a flash point. There is imminent danger to the civilians despite the reported claim that the National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval and not the governor is on watch in the state. And he advocates peace in the valley on the second anniversary of Burhan Wani . The agitated populace and not the militant leaders, on the other hand, is issuing ultimatum. In Lonepora village pictures of those who laid their life in their struggle for freedom was displayed. A native invited the media. “Take a picture of this. Show India that we are not afraid. Shake them up.” [2]Such a sense of finality was never seen before. If that was on the eve of the death anniversary of Burhan Wani, in fast motion was on in the village of Hawoora an encounter and in cheek by jowl attack on protesters in which 21-year-old Shakir Khanday and 14-year old Andlee Jan lost their life in firing by the security. The killing instinct was manifest in action. This was buttressed by soldiers entering lanes and by lanes and throwing stones at the tin shed houses forcing inmates to come out and be shot. “We have orders to kill you whenever we have to.” [1] https://www.firstpost.com/world/the-robin-raphel-saga-what-happened-in-washington-that-soured-indo-us-ties-1798123.html [2] https://scroll.in/article/885756/once-again-a-south-kashmir-village-mourns-its-dead-including-a-14-year-old-girl
Chapter 4
Modi is engineering Muslim Exodus!
Law is law and it doesn’t differentiate whether you have 56 inch chest or pay 56 kinds of taxes to be heard in the court. That Muslims of India should be sent to Pakistan is asking for the impossible. That is what a petitioner wanted and Justice Rohinton Nariman of Delhi High Court did on March 15 2019.
no one leaves home unless
home is the mouth of a shark.
you only run for the border
when you see the whole city
running as well
Warson Shire, “Home”
Why does the problem/matter of the India’s Muslim minority crop up again and over again. One thing that is bright and clear, Muslims of India live well wherever they are in South, North, West, East, etc. But there are people who make their otherness insufferable. One such was a petitioner to Delhi High Court who wanted that all the Muslims of India should be deported to Pakistan. He gave 18 reasons for this. The judge rejected the petition which contains 18reasons of sorts. They stand countered:
1. The two-nation theory was the failure of talk and patch up work. People not only killed and burnt houses but left not a single brick of home and hope of returning and rebuilding.
2. Call it by any name or no name India was India and lived in harmony for thousands of years neighbor by neighbor in rich diversity.
3. Assam developed because of the need of work done by migrants from parts of India.
4. Gujarat saw rioting on account of quota reservation and cow slaughter and the riots were turned against the minority Muslim at the receiving end. What happened in 2002 was planned genocide.
5. Temples and mosques have been destroyed and no one can be immaculate in record nor can anyone community held responsible.
6. Opening of the temple door or raising of the mosque to the ground is the result of selfish calculation of parties. This is not India.
7. The exodus of Kashmiri pandit was made possible by governor Jagmohan by luring most of them with money and housing.
8. The shooting at Ayodhya was in reaction to marauding crowd of kar sevaks. Muslims were not in sight anywhere. Not even the whole of Ayodhya.
9. The victims were overwhelmingly Muslim minority who suffered hugely and the blasts in 1993 was revenge of some gangsters because of their family members being raped and killed in tit for tat where police were on the wrong side.
10. Godhra was truly a tragedy but two commissions of the governments have very widely different conclusions.
11. The Mopla rebellion of 1921 transpired due to the British troops of native origin who entered the famous mosque at Tirurangdi and killed large number of Kerala Muslims. There is no communalism. But it became a part of khilafat.
12. The train blast of 2006 has been solved and only people of Indian origin were sentenced to imprisonment and no foreigner was involved.
13. Temple desecration not solved.
14. Muslim/Hindu migration to Assam and other regions is a matter of people of Indian origin seeking work.
15. What foreign agencies record doesn’t tally the right figures.
16. Border regions are tightly controlled being so porous.
17. Muslims in India formally and informally have been using sharia courts existing at different levels and places.
18. Safety is a matter of disciplined patrolling and registering cross border crimes and population shift.
Though the petition was rejected with a frown it has come at a time when there is growing intolerance in the country and simultaneous weltanschauung of exodus through creation of low key communal tension with frequent, small, low-intensity incidents out of petty everyday issues that institutionalise communalism at the grass roots. [2] . A part of the need to respond is that there are leaders who have had the misfortune to fall a prey to the theory of Samuel Huntington that there is a clash. This: on the account that the Muslims don’t live with their neghbours in peace. In fact the opposite is the case now. Former PM AB Vajpayee travelled to Goa in 2002 where he wanted to change the leadership in Gujarat because of the pogroms of Muslims. But the restive audience was adamant and forced him not to change the leadership of Modi. The petition of Sangat Singh Chauhan brings back what the Hindutva right wing groups still cherish. Hence it is imperative to oppose it by all means in all fields.
There is commensalism in the working of different schemes and programmes that Modi has initiated like multiplying watchmen all over the country. One such is "Main Bhi Chowkidar" Fatima Nafees. Her son -- Najeeb Ahmed -- disappeared under mysterious circumstances from his hostel room in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) three years ago. Three agencies made inquiry but failed to unearth any result.
"If you are a chowkidar, then tell me where is my son Najeeb? Why ABVP goons not arrested? Why three top agencies failed to find my son?" she questioned in a tweet, along with a hashtag that read #WhereIsNajeeb.
Another matter is that of Swami Asimanand. The case of attack on Samjhauta express was investigated by the Haryana police who uncovered many involved in that attack of February 18, 2007 and the same were behind the Malegaon bomb blasts of September 8, 2006. Then how come the results of Haryana police findings not shared by other investigations made by NIA and even the confession of Asimanand under section 186? Why is the PM so insouciant in these matters? This casual indifference of Narendra Modi contrasts with his carefully choosing judges to bring one who would acquit Babu Bajrangi in the earlier days when he was absconding in Gujarat state guest house at Mr Abu. Under his watch of his state all the 20 or more fake encounters took place he carefully made speeches to garner votes and win election and also saw that the cases include his own minister Haren Pandya’s conspiratorial murder ended up in suborning of justice.
Modi’s silence is deafening as events are multiplying with ominous implications. Why was 50 Kgs of RDX taken to Pulwama? Why did he remain silent over the Haryana attack on a Muslim family? Why did the attackers ask the family to leave India and play cricket in Pakistan despite a tricolor fluttering atop the house. This would only confirm the belief that the PM does not want Muslims to live in India, but go to Pakistan. The jaw of the shark of RSS is opening widely!
All this reminds of how Hemant Karkare, who briefly headed Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra and was killed for his honesty. Since then there is a shift that only Muslims must be arrested and Hindus cannot be terrorists. As Arun Jaitly says, with hindsight on Upwama, that the last nail in the coffin of Hindutva terrorism is stuck in. How can that be!
Playing politics on the issue of terrorism is the oxygen. The aim is forced exodus of Muslims of India.
Among discoveries of Karkare was the geo-political strategic implication of a group[Abhinav Bharat] that was hell bent to have realignment of strategic diplomatic and far reaching relationships with external and internal groups and forces. In foreign diplomatic and strategic relations the group had already secured a representation of the Israelis who had attended a conspiracy meeting within the jurisdiction of India without the knowledge of the central government or the foreign office. Their meeting was aimed to plan and cause sabotage within India for which the group within India was seeking steady supply of explosives, arms and ammunition. It wanted safe haven for refuge for the group members if the government in Delhi chose to crack upon the group. As if that were not enough the group within the country wanted its designed saffron flag to fly over its diplomatic centre in Tel Aviv.
Sudhakar Dwedi: I told you on that day. Two Israelis had come to meet me. They sat here. And we talked something here. They are going to give us whatever is first cooperation (we seek).
Purohit: They have already given us. They have demanded everything on the net and by fax. They have created an email ID. We cannot access it. They get it from us in draft in a box. They know the pass word for it and we do not know it. They use the pass word and open and see it. OK NOT OK NOT ACCEPTED they say only.
This brief conversation between the two members of Abhinav Bharat indicates the depth of involvement. The Israelis had already paid a secret visit and wanted two instances of work done within the country by the Abhinav Bharat as surety for extending help clandestinely to the Hindutva organization. The two instances could very well be the first Malegaon attack on September 8, 2006 and February18, 2007 attack on Samjhauta Express . The next and more important is that the Israelis are cleverer than the desi chankyas for they do not want any trail left that leads to them. For example India being a democratic country may seek explanation from Israel so there should be no proof that would point an accusing finger at them. If the Abhinav Bharat or RSS members were caught by Indian police they should not spill the beans that would embarrass the Israelis.
