Genocide is a matter of number. How many are killed and injured. The people who commit it are sustained in their hate and violence campaign because they enjoy a kind of impunity their victims cannot have. They are also resourceful and have official cover to an extent even in a democracy.
Gujarat 2002 will go down in history as a three-day lease of terror enjoyed by the Hidutva groups thanks to the largess of the chief minister Narendra Modi. His lieutenants included Swami Asimanand, Praveen Togadia, Babu Bajrangi, etc. Voter lists and sales tax records helped the murder and arson committed on the minority Muslim community. This was an accentuated and well-organized genocide campaign of Hindutva groups in alliance with the state police and administration. But there was another in the making.
9/11 gave the impetus to wreak havoc on the Muslim minority in Gujarat and elsewhere. The Prime minister of that time Atal Bihari Vajpayee found a good deal of common instinct of revenge with President George Bush and Samuel Huntington. They believed that the Muslims do not live with their neighbours peacefully and hence the need to show them their place. Opportunities had to be created if not available. The torching of the Sabarmati express or the attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Centre came to them handy. So did terrorism.

The 37 audiotapes that have been accessed by some news magazines show that terrorism practiced by the Abhinav Bharat or RSS in league with the army is far more serious as it is supported by many in the army than was thought before.
Among the serious charges against the genocidal gang of Abhinav Bharat and RSS is: hatching conspiracy with a foreign country to kill the innocent citizens of India. Lt Col Shrikant Purohit, responsible for Malegaon blasts as well as Samjhauta express attack, told RP Singh and others of Abhinav Bharat that he had established contact with Brigadier Lajpat Prajwal stationed with the Nepal army. They had a meeting with King Gyanenedra of Nepal. The king had agreed to train under Prajwal, jawans who would work for the establishment of a new nation, Abhinav Bharat, by over throwing the government of India by armed struggle. Or, what else was the arm training with Nepal meant for? At the behest of the Israelis Purohit and his Abhinav Bharat had exploded bombs on Samjhauta express and in Mecca mosque which had killed more than seventy people and injured many more. Therefore the expected help from Israel was over due. This included continued arms supply, a flag of Hindu Rashtra on the office of Abhinav Bharat in Tel Aviv, and safe sanctuary.
In addition to Nepal and Israel, Purhit had also contacted Khetomi Sema, the Naga rebel leader whose Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland was fighting against India for a separate country for the Nagas. The Naga leader had told his militia to give logistic support to Abhinav Bharat for seven years. So deep runs the hatred for Muslims of the land! Even the insurgents are welcome in Hindutva’s fight against the Muslims of the country.
Second serious charge: sending Indian soldiers stationed in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts to Israel and Nepal for clandestine training. Military Intelligence(MI) has no constitutional power or military rule to do so. RP Singh has said in a tape that the members of Abhinav Bharat present in a secret meeting held at Gorakhpur included: a close relative of King Gyanendra, Maj Prayag Modak, Col Raikar and Col Hasmukh Patel. So was Prajwal, deputed by the queen of Nepal, Rani Aishwarya.
Genocide was in the mind of Purohit and also the aim of those who met at Gorakhpur because he said: “I have a state-wise population of Muslims in each state but I have only three AK-47s.” This parallels the pre pogrom survey that Mordi government conducted of Muslim business in Gujarat. They were later targeted, looted and burnt and Muslim owners killed.
The extremists among the Hindus have different organizations for the same purpose: extermination of the minorities especially the Muslims. RSS is a hydra headed monster, Abhinav Bharat is another name of it and if it is banned? Another AB activist had this to say: Shyam Apte: “We will give it an international aspect... and a covert name. We have to fight. See, if you aren’t a Hindu, you are my enemy. I will be unsafe if you are alive…” Apte also had the same thought of killing Muslims en-mass because they would not change their religion. The shared ideology of hatred for Muslims is the common raison d’ etre of the two, RSS and AB. Who says that the Sangh or RSS is not involved in terrorism? Purohit himself says about how he gruesomely killed two Maoists with his hands and threw their bodies in the deep gutters of Vasant Kunj Civic Cenre in Delhi. “There was a captain and a major posted in Delhi. I managed to do my work with them over the phone. This work otherwise would have taken more than three months. It happened because I belong to Sangh and he was also from Sangh. I didn’t even know him. He was from UP and he did the work in one day. Tapping such people (with Sangh background) is important.”
How deep is the penetration of the Abhinav Bharat into the army is evident in Purohit offering to arrange Sudhakar Pandy’s visit to Bhubhaneshwar with the help of a serving commander of the Indian army posted there! Pandey wanted to attend a progrmme of the editor of the RSS mouthpiece Organiser, Deepak Rath.
Of all the leaders of the RSS Modi remains the focus of attention because he has been tested in ‘action’ against the Muslims of Gujarat 2002 genocide. Pandey wanted Purohit to meet Modi with the help of Swami Asimanand. Modi knew the swami because he had donated lakhs of rupees to the holy man whom Purohit had nicknamed Bhagwan. Asimanand had received eight kilos of RDX from Purohit to blow up the Samjhauta express compartments. That had killed 68 Muslims and injured many more.
How would the Ahinav Bharat execute genocide of Muslim is also a tried and tested method: “if I buy two army vehicles from the scrap and paint them with army colours and send them along with our people in army uniform into Meerut, they can just fire and come out of the situation easily. There is so much confusion in this country.”

How we are dealing with this kind of terror is evident in what happened in Nagpur, the headquarters of RSS. On ninth of December 2010Nagpur police detained two Muslims from UP because they were carrying a magazine in Urdu with the picture of Indresh Kumar. They had stayed in a mosque in Mominpura and collected fund from Muslim areas of Jaffernager, Ehbab colony and Chhaoni. This background was enough. Their Muslim identity made the cops believe that the duo was out to kill Indresh Kumar! Instead of unearthing genocide plan in which Indresh Kumar was involved and had attended a meeting with other conspirators on October 25 2005, the cops are more interested in hunting the duo Muslim on suspicion! Lest we still refuse to be disabused, it is enough to know that what is a gang today will swell into an organized government militia to execute in action what has been in their hearts. Their target of killing remains the Muslims. Overwhelming numbers of the minority Muslims still humbly sing with the poet: “khake watan ka mujhko her zarra deota hai.” (Every speck of my motherland is a god, worthy of worship) Like the contemporary situation in Ivory Coast the houses and commercial establishments have been marked and the time to strike is ticking in a crescendo. The “confusion in the country” has the hallmark of the prevalence of the saffron brigands.

Julian Assange, a blow to the regimentation terrorism
The appearance of Julian Assange on the horizon on November 20, 2010 with his WikiLeaks has potentially changed not just diplomacy but it has also threatened to tergiversate the loyalty and moral conduct of the pretending liberal West. Its fall out on the conduct of terrorism/counter terrorism is even more revolutionizing.
For India there is upheaval in the waiting. It is even more troubling than Digvijay Singh’s last talk with slain Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare. WikiLeaks show that there was a close association between FBI and the Delhi Police’s Special Cell. So disturbing is the phenomenon that what has been revealed so far looks only a tip of the iceberg. It was the government of PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani, which had permitted to establish FBI office in Delhi. The Special Cell of Delhi Police toed the line of the FBI. The whisking away of Anita Udayya from Mumbai to the US is an instance. She had meticulously identified the six terrorists involved in 26/11 in Mumbai. This had surprised the FBI. Not ten but six terrorists had landed at the fishing shanty she lived in. Karkare was summoned to Delhi on November 24, 2008 a la FBI and questioned by the army about his findings on army’s role in the Malegaon 2008 blast and also other blasts like the attack on Samjhauta express. What happened next is history!
Purohit, the price catch of Karkare, was no ordinary guy. He had trained the ATS in fighting terrorism and his training must have paralleled the Hindu right Hemani Savarkar’s bomb for bomb theory and also “bomb ka jawab bmb se” approach of Swami Asimanand. Asimanand was after all the mastermind, unlike the elusive Indian Mujahideen masterminds mostly cooked up by the Indian police. Purohit was posted in sensitive posts like military intelligence dealing with counter terrorism operations. He used the fund available to the army and also used RDX from the military stock. He had 60 kilos of RDX stolen from the army when he was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. Those in higher commanding positions must have Okayed his work. He had so much confidence born out of the support that he had negotiated with the Israeli secret agency seeking support, recognition and asylum as he was planning to overthrow the government and abrogate the constitution of India. All this with “ a national flag, that is, a solo-themed saffron flag with a golden border...with an ancient golden torch”
As National Investigation Agency into the Samjhauta express attacks of 2007have finally led NIA to seek a production warrant against Asimanand at a fast track court at Panchkula, Haryana because they have sufficient proof against him there is more to the case than meets the eye. Purohit had given 8 kilos of RDX from his military stock to one Bhagwan. This Bhagwan is no other than Swami Asimanand. That consignment of explosives from the army ended up in the seven compartments of the India-Pakistan shuttle train of friendship. The seven bombs were put in seven suitcases bought from Indore. They killed 68 people of which 38 were identified. Many more were injured. The national security advisor of India MK Narayanan had prevented the investigation by the Haryana police because this would expose us what we also are vis-à-vis Pakistan.
With this depth of commitment of the military establishment, could the army allow further probing into its high ranks over their involvement in bomb for bomb retaliatory terrorism?
The involvement of the army in terrorism within the country aimed at the minority Muslims or Christians is high treason. It threatens to vertically divide the country again. Digvijay Singh born before the partition of the country and Rahul Gandhi born after it and Julian Assange who saw many such acts of terror especially those committed by the US in Iraq and Afghanistan and the retaliatory terror of the Israelis in Palestine must have felt truly revolted by the cruelty of it. They must have seen the miserable condition of those who fell victim. A way to stop is to be objective in looking at it. Therefore Rahul Gandhi knew that there could be possible local support to some of the acts of terror perpetrated by Lashkare Tayaba. But he knew the overwhelming infrastructure of the RSS and its secret arms training and the purpose of it. And for all that the RSS did he also saw how Muslims were made to wear the cross for what they had not done anything as in the case of the Malegaon blasts of 2006. He must have also come to know how the national advisor of India scuttled the investigation of the Haryana police in the matter of the Samjhauta express attack by Hindu extremists of Abhinave Bharat as well as the RSS.
The RSS holds a very chauvinistic view of loyalty to India as only cultural nationalism determined by Hindu history and culture. Holding such a view cuts off the diverse minorities of the country as aliens and hence a threat to the Hindus and therefore (purposely misconceived) to India.
The Indian police and even army are known to be practicing regimentation terrorism (like strict political discipline as in a police estate.) They have lured gullible Muslim youth to cross the border and enter into Pakistan for terrorism training and then on their return they frame them to be terrorists. They blackmail them into playing a heinous game of forced participation in an act of terrorist attack. For example Afzal Guru was sent to Delhi by no other than Special Task Force of Jammu and Kashmir. He was in the pay of that special force.
When the state agencies are used to practice terrorism and well-meaning people like Julian Assange and Hemant Karkare come to know they feel that this is great injustice to the weaker sections of the people shorn of power and support. Their exposure through leaks or investigation flies direct in the face of the state. That is why vice president of the US Joseph Biden called Assange a high tech terrorist. Give dog a bad name and hang. Karkare met his fate that way.

Why still politicking over Karkare!
It is difficult to say when the Congress party leader Digvijay Singh ceases to be a rationalist and secularist, and when he becomes a politician. However his remarks are extremely important as they provide the leads to further investigation as well as a fresh judicial process into the matters related to terrorism and fake encounter. At times he lets out clues so easily that he is walking a tight rope as when he said that he never doubted the inquiry into the killing of Hemant Karkare, the Anti Terrorist Squad chief killed during the November 26 2008 attack on Mumbai nor asked for any fresh inquiry. These are seemingly contradictory remarks that trap the politician in him.
What he told The Indian Express on Friday December 11, 2010 is crucial in importance “On November 26, 2008, at 7 pm, just about two hours before the attacks in Mumbai started, Hemant Karkare, the slain ATS chief, rang me on my mobile and told me how his family and his life were blighted by constant threats from people annoyed by his investigations into the Malegaon blast.” A similar statement was also reported by the Indian Express reporters who interviewed Karkare what turned out to be his last interview as he was leaving for Delhi on November 24, 2008.
Does “people annoyed by his investigations into the Malegaon blast’ mean only the Hindu extremists like the people in RSS, BJP, Shiv Sena? At least Karkare’s widow Kavita and Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam seem to believe that. Even so the new revelations do not militate against that assumption. As to pointing finger at what has come in vogue as saffron terrorism should not cause any more consternation after the arrest of Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit, Sadhvi Pragyasingh Thakur, Swami Asimanand, Swami Dyanand Pandey as well as the mysterious death of RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi, and the still absconding from law of Ramsingh Kalsangrah and Sandeep Dange who planted the bomb in Malegaon in 2008 and believed to be behind Samjhauta express attack in 2007. That had killed seventy Pakistanis and injured many more aboard the good will train between the two neighbours as they were returning to Pakistan after visiting India . Even after Wikileaks into the matter what could one make of "Such statements [by Digvijaysigh] will mislead people and benefit Pakistan”?
The mystery that shrouds the murder of Karkare and others with him bodes ill for the facile ultra nationalist bandwagon which was baying for his blood and no sooner was he killed than they turned to singing paean in his honour. Why were they breathing down his neck ever since Karkare arrested the Hindu extremists involved in Malegaon bombing of 2008? Even the former deputy prime minister of India LK Advani wanted Karkare to be replaced, not to speak of the itching for revenge against Karkare of the extremist Hindu parties including Shiv Sena. Can we take the people of India to be so gullible that they would forget all these despite the politicking that is still going on in the name of Karkare’s assassination?
David Mulford’s memo of “Congress played religious politics after Mumbai attack” [PTI, December 11, 2010] is as revealing contextually as the British High Commission’s secret memo on Gujarat pogrom of Muslims. The American ambassador to India wrote on December 23, 2008
"The Congress Party, after first distancing itself from the comments (of Antulay, the then minority affairs minister), two days later issued a contradictory statement which implicitly endorsed the conspiracy. During this time, Antulay's completely unsubstantiated claims gained support in ... Indian-Muslim community."
But Mulford erred in one respect, Antulay as well as Kavita did mention the last call Karkare received on his mobile. He was told to go to Cama hospital while PC Hasan Gafoor had already asked him to proceed to Hotel Trident. The crime branch headed by Rakesh Maria who is now ATS boss did not want to reveal this even to Kavita. Even the widow of another slain police officer Ashok Kamte, Vinita Kamte, had had so much of difficulty in getting the phone records! Why so much of hush up with the widows of the martyred fellow police officers of repute? It is not only the Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who should ask the home minister of Maharashtra to clarify the matter but the people of India.

National and international implications of Indresh Kumar’s involvement in terror
A secret meeting of October 31, 2005 is drawing attention of many and still eludes the attention of the government and its highest level intelligence gathering agencies. If an executive member of the national policy making body of the Rashtrya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS was present in it why have they failed to unearth the depth of involvement of RSS into terror related plots. Even a third rate politician has his movement tracked by the police. Indresh Kumar was not alone, there were six others from the RSS present in the cabal meeting at the Gujarat guest house of Jaipur. Among the other RSS functionaries was Devendra Gupta who was an important office holder of the RSS and directly involved in the Ajmer shrine blast of 2007.
Indresh had advocated mass killings of Muslims. That has grave implication for the national security and stability of India. His advocacy for mass murder fits in the central framework of the workings and ideology of the sangh. There is nothing novel about it. Teaching them to become good citizens means that they accept themselves as Hindus and live like the Hindus. But the Sangh runs into difficulties here. The Constitution of the country does not consider the Muslims as aliens or second class citizens as does the RSS. In defending Indresh the RSS is doing nothing but simply defending its own policy and ideology.
The greatest blunder the RSS commits is its desire to kill Muslims but it also believes that the international community would stand by and let this happen. However, there are enough Indians of all hue and colour who are opposed to such extremism and would oppose it tooth and nail.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had revoked the land allotted to Hindu pilgrims going to the Himalayan temple of Amarnath. Jammu saw some very bloody scenes when Hindus protested against the Kashmiri Muslims. The violence was not restricted to Jammu, it also spread to many towns of Madhya Pradesh.
The national and international ramifications merge at points. Sunil Joshi was an important functionary of the RSS both in his home state of Madhya Pradesh as well as the new state of Jharkhand. The SIM cards recovered from the accused in Ajmer shrine blast and Hyderabad mosque bombing site have addresses of Jharkhand towns as well as Madhya Pardesh. This national scope slowly merges with the international boundary of India. The acquiring of arms by the RSS is even more ominous. It is alleged that Malegaon 2008 bomb attack accused and serving LtCol Srikant Purohit and Shyam Apte of Pune had given a gun to one Alok and the Kolkata Hindutva activist Tapan Ghosh on April 11 or 12, 2008, to kill Indresh Kumar. This they obviously did to purge him of his favouring the Maoists of Nepal rather than the king of Nepal. Purohit and his terrorist outfit Abhinav Bharat felt outraged over the death of Hindus as a result of favouring the godless Maoists and not the Hindu royal family. Even if there was some truth in it their desire to purge India of Muslims and other minorities does not change. Killing Muslims in India on a large scale or supporting the Maoists in Nepal has the potential in wreaking havoc in altering the political map of the subcontinent.
When the RSS pracharak Devendra Gupta and Lokesh Sharma were arrested, the RSS distanced itself by removing them from membership. But Indresh was a different kettle of fish. He was the executive member of the decision making body of the RSS. He was in the know of several terror plots. It is strange that the ATS of Rajasthan has named him a principal conspirator but has not named him as an accused! The matter must be so serious for the organization that it is for the first time in its history that the chief of the RSS Mohan Bhagwat attended a protest rally against the naming of Indresh in the charge sheet of the ATS.
The others who figure in the charge sheet are Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Chander Shekar Lave, Sandeep Dange, Ramji Kalsangre and Sunil Joshi. Those who attended the secret meeting included Indresh Kumar, Sadhvi Pragyasingh Thackur, Swami Aseemanand, etc. Sunil Josh had booked the rooms in the Gujarat guest house of Jaipur in 2005 under an assumed name of Manoj Kumar. Joshi’s diary carries the phone number of Indresh Kumar.

Even more disturbing is the involvement of these people in the bombing of the Samjhauta express in 2007. All the victims of the attack were citizens of Pakistan returning home after their visit to India. India made it out that it was the work of Pakistan terrorist groups. This kind of fudging of evidence and intelligence reports has put a question mark on India’s seriousness in fighting terrorism.
How much more can the RSS expect India to fudge? With the arrest of Swami Aseemanand in Hardwar on Friday, November 19th there seems to be crossing of the Tiber. The Swami is the counterfoil of Indresh. If Indresh wanted more numbers to be killed, Aseemanan or Jatin Chatterji wanted mosques and other places with Muslim crowd to be targeted. It would be in the fitness of things to have Indresh arrested to send clear signal that now at last India is serious about fighting terror.

RSS discourse on terrorism: canards
RSS along with its many affiliates commonly known as Sangh parivar has its discourse on terrorism shrunken to just blame game against the Congress party. This is the only armour it has believing mistakenly that attacking the Congress party is its best self defence. What has crowded out all other things is its self hurt on conspiracy that it alleges the Congress to have hatched against it. Quintessentially it does not see facts in the broad day light that its activists have been caught in bomb blasts not once or twice but several times. The Sangh is a multi headed hydra and has been involved in terrorist attacks of both the kinds, conspiratorial bomb blasts by its scattered cells everywhere as well as its leading mobs who attack minorities by organizing pogroms. Malegaon, Margo, Mecca masjid, Ajmer, the Samjhauta express are some of the most remarkable examples of the first and the genocide of Christians in Kandhamal and the pogroms of Muslims in Gujarat 2002 and the communal riots of 2008 in Jammu and Madhya Pradesh over the issue of the land grant to the pilgrimage of Amarnath cave are recent examples of the second. There is also another kind of terrorism, albeit a new one. It is engaged in turf war in Kannur, Kerala. Some of the most spine chilling blood baths have taken place there when its cadres attack Muslims and communists with choppers and bombs. If a man is known by the company he keeps, the RSS is known by the cadres it keeps armed to the teeth. If anyone is unaware of it he should peep at the display of arms of its cadres during the Dassera march it organizes every year. He would be gullible if he believes that the Sangh would turn the swords and guns into ploughshares.
Ever since Dr KG Hedgewar and BS Moonje founded it in the 20s of the 20th century the search for killing larger number was the hidden agenda. Moonje even travelled to Mussolin’s Italy to learn it. In 2008 bomb blast at Bhikuchowk in Malegaon this gave away the secret. Sadhvi Pragyasingh Thakur asked the bomb planter Ramji Kalsangra why so few were killed. That phone call proved their guilt. She came from Durga Vahini, a woman outfit of the RSS. Her close associate Sunil Joshi involved in multiple attacks was an office bearer of it. He was planning to attack a huge Muslim gathering aiming to kill huge number during an Ijtema or Muslim congregation that took place in the greatest mosque of India situated at Bhopal in 2004.
As far as acts of violence are concerned the RSS and BJP are indistinguishable in their involvement in these. Most of them are members of both. Former Prime Minister Vajpayee and Deputy PM LK Advani and the current Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi have always felt proud of being members of RSS and owed their life achievement to that organization. Advani and Modi have a long and gory trail of record of murder and arson against the minorities, particularly Muslims, in the aftermath of the rathyatra in the early nineties and Gujarat pogroms of 2002. In what way are they any better than the BJP MLA, Pradhan, of G Udaygiri in Orissa who was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for killing Christians? He had fourteen criminal cases against him of which half were murder related. All these belong to the anti Christian riots of 2008 when 43 Christians were killed, 150 churches razed to the ground and 4600 houses burnt. All this happened as a punishment to the Christians whom the RSS blamed for the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Laxmananda Saraswati. He it was who was forcing the Christians to reconvert to Hinduism.
A different story was about Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati the main accused in the murder of Sankararaman a very high officer in charge of the holiest seat of Hinduism in the South of India. The pontiff and his successor were charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. If convicted they would even face execution. There were 23 others charged.
Given the facts of the events as they are the pontiff from the south and the Swami from Orissa are criminals. And yet the RSS boss Mohan Bhagwat terms them as saints. How could the RSS go to the people to justify that this outfit is not an organization involved in terrorism? Bhagwat claims that “the opinion of people will change due to work of these saints”!
Most of the acts of RSS are furtive, sinister, and shrouded in secrecy, can it afford to come clean and be candid? Bhagwat claims: “But this time Sangh has decided to tell the people what the reality is. We will fight it in the court, publicise our view and will reach out to the people and tell them the reality.”
This is just a tall claim which the RSS cannot put into practice and hence the chief holds out the threat: “even after this, if those conspiring against the organization continue with their nefarious attempts Sangh will teach them a lesson.” Can the people of this democratic country expect him to spell out what would be the lesson?

RSS, address the people rather than only Congress party--I
True to its arcane theory of regaining Akhand Bharat (a united and undivided India that stretches from Afghanistan to Mayanmar and beyond) and ushering in a Brhamanical culture (where only the upper caste Hindus would have power and sway), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh does not see that these are outdated. They cannot put the clock back. They also have a rigid chauvinistic view of the very limited and subservient role for women. As if these were not enough, it is also an organization that is not registered with the government of the country although it handles a budget that is astronomically more than many of the states of the union of India. It receives foreign donations to the tune of millions of dollar and yet it is hell bent on opposing any concessions to the backward Muslims according to its self delusional pet theories of the Hindu right that it is appeasement of the minority! Who would accept this kind of ideology in the 21st century?
If there are people who still enroll for RSS it is because of the organization’s ‘catching them young’ practice of cultivating the susceptible young by nurturing their impressionable minds with a harmful teaching of history and ‘national’ culture that not only excludes the minorities but also inculcates hatred for them.
Among the minorities also come people of foreign origin who have accepted Indian citizenship by marrying Indians or by free choice. One such person is the Congress party president and widow of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and daughter in law of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi. The RSS has often tried and maintained its tactics of rumour mongering and whispering innuendoes against her. SK Sudarshan enjoyed a brief span as the chief of RSS. But his long years since boyhood in the organization has convinced him that slandering opponents would weaken them and serve the cause of RSS. But he has missed a vital point.
His remark that she is an agent of the CIA and that she plotted the assassination of her husband Rajiv Gandhi and Indra Gandhi is no doubt puerile but with a purpose. It is calculated to deflect attention from the startling disclosure on the RSS involvement in bomb blasts across the country, from Hyderabad to Panipat in Haryana, from Malegaon to Modassa and beyond. Instead of feeling any remorse or correcting its obsolete ideology it has chosen to confront the Congress party headlong. The Congress party is only a political party and not the whole of rightful thinking people of India who may or may not be Congress party sympathizers.
A piquant situation arose in Malegaon on Dassera day this year. The Iqbal sports club stuck poles within the precinct of the ramparts of the fort imitating the RSS which also did the same many years ago and held physical exercise in another section there. The king ruling Malegaon more than 200 years ago had built the fort for security of his domain. The government had lent the inner part of the fort for a Marathi medium school for only education purposes. Holding physical exercise by the RSS is nothing to do education. The RSS took exception to the move of the sports club. The senior police officer scolded the members of the club and ordered them to remove the poles from their section. They insisted that the constitution of the country gives them the same right as it has given to the others. The RSS failed to furnish any written permission of the government for their physical exercise and worship of arms in the morning of the Dassera day and taking out a procession from there. The police forbade them from holding worshipping of arms there. This was the first occasion when the RSS had to start their worship and procession from outside the fort. There are hundreds of thousands of such schools and government buildings and public grounds where the RSS holds such meetings every day and every year. On this issue everywhere else in the country the RSS has no written permission and yet has enjoyed patronage of governments and immunity from the provisions of the Constitution of India. Their main contention is that their organization develops cultural nationalism which they think is Indian and embraces all of India. In practice it excludes the minorities who are also Indians. It militates against the basic provisions of the Constitution of India, discrimination of the citizens of the country based on religion. Can the RSS address the people of India on this issue rather than taking on a political party?

As far as the bilateral relationship between India and the US is concerned there is an élan as observed at occasions like the recent Obama visit. The most important issue of the day is terrorism. But the moment the “enormous” negihbour Pakistan enters in the equation there is a chemical change. The tripartite relationship leaves much to be desired.
On November 7th night and the morning next day President Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh might have personally discussed about 26/11 and the role of the American informant David Headley, the matter is still nebulous. What do the Americans mean when they say they had “various different kinds of information about David Headley” that “weren’t specific to a particular plot in India”? On the contrary Headley did have specific information regarding even the fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan whom he described as a member of Lashkare Toiba, a Pakistan based terrorism organization. She was kidnapped by Indian police from Mumbai and killed in Gujarat in a fake encounter. The police said that she along with her three friends wanted to kill the Chief Minister Narendra Modi. This fitted in the pattern of accusation after 9/11 which generally blamed the Muslims for bomb blasts in default. As of October 11, 2010 the National Investigation Agency had found that she was not a terrorist and was not a member of LeT. The NIA charge sheet does not even mention Headley in the case of the fake encounter. This kind of fabricated intelligence information has gone on for so long that now it has become a tale of two democracies: the American and the Indian. As Stephen Lendman says: “The story is disturbingly familiar. FBI agents arrest a suspect on terrorism related charges, nearly always a Muslim, photographed full bearded to look menacing. Media reports highlight it, headlining government charges to incite fear. Even to the fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan. It came so convenient that even the Home Minister Mr Chidambrum accepted it that she was an activist of LeT. Can the US be allowed an alibi that it shared information about Headley but not about the most devastating terrorist attack known as 26/11attack on Mumbai in which the American agent played a crucial role? Why has the US been so queasy about letting Indians have free access to Headley and thoroughly probe him while the US has itself been involved in all kinds of extraordinary renditions practiced for getting information about terrorists across the continents? The Miranda provision of the US law has been turned into the carpet under which the US can conveniently sweep what it chooses from time to time. What is crucial to its own involvement goes under the carpet. After all Headley too was inducted into intelligence information gathering because of his first hand experience in Pakistan. That happened when there were few informants available in the aftermath of 9/11.
What more particular information regarding the plot of 26/11can be there than the US informing RAW (top foreign intelligence gathering agency of India) on November 18, 2008 that a hostile ship [al- Husaaini]with specific latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates 30-34 details was sailing from Karachi in an attempt to enter Indian waters off Mumbai? This information RAW duly sent to Intelligence Bureau (top internal intelligence agency of India) on November 19, 2008. This was actionable intelligence: seven days later the attack on Mumbai came! The US cannot wash off its hands of the responsibility. The guilt sticks and stinks. This despite the fact that they are two important democracies of the world who have chosen to ignore the kidnapping of the most important witness who saw the six terrorists landing near her fishing colony, Anita Rajendra Uddaiya.
What kind of democracies are these that they do not know what their intelligence agencies are doing? First the Indian officials say that Gujarat police’s and the Central government intelligence agencies’ claims tally with Headley on Ishrat out to kill Modi at the instance of their Pakistani handler Muzammil and yet the NIA simply ignores Headley on Ishrat and Obama has the sang froid to assert that we have missed intelligence reports?

An independent journalist and documentary film-maker from Delhi has refuted Pakistani American terrorist David Headley’s claims that Ishrat Jahan was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative.
Shubradeep Chakravorty, who has made a short film titled, Encountered on Saffron Agenda, told DNA that four encounters in Gujarat, including Ishrat’s, were fake.
On June 15, 2004, the Gujarat police had gunned down Mumbra resident Ishrat, Javed Gulam Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali alias Rajkumar Akbarali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Ganny, claiming that they wanted to kill chief minister Narendra Modi.
Chakravorty shot his documentary in seven states and interviewed 37 people, including KTS Tulsi, former counsel for the Gujarat government. He spoke to many senior police and intelligence officers, who admitted that Ishrat’s encounter was an intelligence slip. “The special investigative team report has said Ishrat’s encounter was fake,” said Chakravorty.
Chakravorty met Ishrat’s family and friends and even checked her college records. “There is no question of Ishrat undergoing training because her records show she never missed classes for a long duration,” he said.
“When I interviewed the Gujarat police informally, they admitted there was an intelligence slip. The police are trying to tarnish Ishrat’s image,” he added.
